International day against female genital mutilation is celebrated every year on 6th of February. The day is celebrated to spread awareness about the issue. It helps in educating people the problems which are faced by women after genital mutilation.
The aim of creating such awareness is to prevent people from conducting female mutilation. The female mutilation is very harmful and painful process. The practice is inhuman, it is cruel and denies the right to health and security of the women on whom the mutilation is conducted.
Female genital mutilation causes excessive bleeding, cysts, infertility and low birth rate motility of new born babies. Female genital mutilation is when the genitals are altered for no medical reason driven on the forces of culture and society.
Globally it is believed that more than 200 women have undergone female genital mutilation. The mutilation is a means of discrimination and is a very painful process for the person undergoing it. The celebration of the day has brought down the rate of female genital mutilation.
