This year’s theme is ‘I Am and I Will’, which is being continued since 2019, and one of the mottos of the theme is ‘together, all our actions matter’
With the pandemic affecting the world, cancer-affected people have had a harder time dealing with their ailment. The UICC highlighted this issue and expressed gratitude towards the medical workers like nurses, doctors, as well as researchers, volunteers, advocates and other caregivers in oncology from around the world. They also voiced praise for the government agencies which worked this past year through the COVID-19 pandemic unrelentingly.
World cancer day is celebrated globally on 4th of February every year. The day is celebrated as initiative by the global union international cancer control (UICC). Cancer is considered to be the second most global reason of death. Many people suffer from the fatal disease of cancer and due to the unawareness, they are not able to diagnose it at an initial stage. This international event of cancer day helps in bringing the issue of cancer to global notice and the means to prevent it further from spreading and the means to tackle it if any one has acquired the disease.
It has been noticed by researchers that 1 out of 10 Indians develop cancer. In India alone there are more than 16 million cases registered of cancer. There are various reasons of cancer such as the genes, food, substance abuse, radiations, toxins in the environment and many more. However, many patients recover each year acting victorious against the deadly disease of cancer and acting as motivators for many more.
The theme for world cancer day 2019-2021 is “I am and I will”. It is to showcase the cooperation and action towards cancer. People coming together are in the wish for betterment of cancer patients and creating awareness about the same.

Stories of celebrities such as Sonali Bendre acts as a ray of new light for the people who are battling the disease as it makes them feel that if others have been warriors, they will also win the battle against cancer and would live for years.
