Friends it is being said. By April may of 2021 all film theaters will be closed for good in India and the reason behind it would be the OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime. This is a lifetime chance for the OTT platforms and they would not try to lose onto it. They will never get a second golden chance like this. Where they have an opportunity to compel the movie theatres to be closed so that all the film will have no other way but to be released on the OTT platform only.
Who were the main people involved in starting this process. It was the people from Bollywood itself. The first film that was released was Gulabo Sitabo starring no other than Amithabh Bachan and Ayushman Khurrana. It was believed that this was one stand alone film to have been released online however it was believed that other films would not follow the trend. Thereafter it was not as planned and the next movie to follow the soot was Akshay Kumar starrer Laxxmi Bomb on Disney Hotstar. Many other films also followed the soot.
Although it was still believed that as soon as the theatres would open after the lockdown. The films would be released in theatres as the trend was before the pandemic had hit us. The course as planned did not happen and all the big budget films continued to be released on the OTT platform rather than theatrical release. Some examples cited by KRK are Indoo Ki jawani, Durgamati, Coolie No.1, The white tiger.
These were big budget films which could have done a commendable business in theatres. It is rest assured that “C” grade films would now only release on the OTT platforms and would never be released theatrically as it used to happen previously. According to reliable sources it has been learnt that these platforms have decided that even if they have to bear monetary losses they would never allow the films to be released in theatres.
KRK added by saying that this strategy would definitely ruin the theatre owners if no films are released till April 2021. Eventually the theatre owners would go bankrupt handing over the whole business to the OTT platforms which would act a golden egg for the OTT platforms.
The problem would not simply end over here. The big budget films like Amitabh Bachans Chehere are also due to be released online which would definitely effect the business of theatres adversely because watching films in theatre is a habit which develops over time.
Since watching a movie in the theatre is an expensive experience and now since the same movies would be available to the viewers in the convince of their homes they would definitely loose interest in going to the movie theatres.
If the trend continues this ways the theatres would eventually shut down forever.
