New Delhi: Amit Khare, IAS, Secretary, Higher Education, was felicitated by Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan on eve of his superannuation during an event organized at All India Council for Technical Education. Shri Amit Khare is an Indian Administrative Service officer (1985 batch) from Bihar/Jharkhand cadre. He assumed the charge as Secretary, Ministry of Education (Department of Higher Education) in Dec 2019. Within a short time thereafter, the National Education Policy 2020 was approved by the cabinet on 29 July 2020.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan said, “ Amit Khare has set a benchmark in field of higher education with his expertise and wide range of experience in various domains. He has been instrumental in guiding me on the various aspects of National Education Policy 2020. I have been fortunate to have him as my Secretary because of which I could comprehend the larger picture of school, skill and higher education toward fulfilling the objectives of NEP. He has been instrumental in progressing key social initiatives and has also contributed in Ujjwala yojna that depicts his zest and zeal for up-lifment of the rural populace in India. I shall be missing his presence deeply.”
Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, MoS, Ministry of Education said, “Amit Khare has been leading various initiatives of the Ministry of Education. He has always been forward looking and his tireless work has provided the basic foundations for the implementation of the NEP.”
Speaking on the occasion, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MoS, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology shared that Amit Khare had also headed the Information & Broadcasting Ministry and was well versed with the issues involved. “His absence was rarely felt and he was able to balance the work efficiently between both the Ministries with great ease”.
Reflecting on his past work, Amit Khare said, “I am not retiring but superannuating and I shall continue to work for the betterment of the Nation. The future of the Nation lies in the hands of our students. Hence we all must nurture them with care and progressively develop their potential through implementation of National Education Policy”.
K. Sanjay Murthy, IAS (Secretary Designate) was also present. Shri Murthy is an IAS officer from Himachal Pradesh of 1989 batch. Mrs Anita Karwal, IAS, Secretary Department of School Education & Literacy, Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, IAS, Secretary (MSDE), Prof DP Singh, Chairman, UGC, Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE also graced the event.
