Delhi court grants bail to activist Disha Ravi in toolkit case: 21-year-old environmental activist Disha Ravi, arrested in ‘toolkit’ case related to farmer agitation, was granted bail by the Patiala House Court on Tuesday. The court granted bail to Ravi on the condition of depositing a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. During this time the Delhi Police appealed to the court to extend the remand of the direction for further questioning, which was rejected by the court.
Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana said that after looking into all the facts, the accused Disha Ravi is ordered released on bail. He has asked Ravi to deposit a bond of one lakh rupees and two sureties of the same amount. Disha Ravi was arrested from Bangalore by the Cyber Cell of the Delhi Police on charges of sharing ‘Toolkit’ on social media. The police have filed a case against Ravi and others on various charges including treason.
Significantly, Disha Ravi’s lawyer had on Saturday told the Patiala House Court in Delhi that there was no evidence to show that the ‘toolkit’ related to the farmers’ demonstrations was responsible for the violence on 26 January. After this, the court reserved its order on Tuesday for its bail plea.
Disha through her lawyer had told the court that if it is treason to raise the performance of farmers globally, then I am fine in jail. Disha’s lawyer made the argument after Disha’s bail plea was opposed by the Delhi Police.
During the court hearing, Delhi Police opposed Disha Ravi’s bail plea, saying it was not merely a ‘toolkit’, the real plan was to discredit India and create unrest here. Disha had deleted the chat on WhatsApp, she was aware of the legal action. This shows that there was a nefarious idea behind the ‘toolkit’.
Police said Disha Ravi was part of the Indian chapter of a global conspiracy to discredit India and create unrest under the guise of farmers’ demonstrations. Delhi Police had said in the court that Sikhs for Justice, a banned organization, had announced on January 11 to reward the person who hoisted the Khalistani flag at India Gate and Red Fort.
The Delhi Police said that somehow this ‘toolkit’ was leaked on social media and was available in the public domain, it was planned to be removed and demonstrated. The police said in front of the court that this organization was operated from Canada and wanted someone to hoist the flag at India Gate, Red Fort. They wanted to carry out such activities under the guise of farmers’ protest and that is why the Poetic Justice Foundation is involved.
Regarding Khalistan, Delhi Police said that Vancouver is an important location for anti-India activities and an organization called Kisan Ekta Company is in contact with another organization in Vancouver.
