As the facility of clean tap water connections reached nearly 51 lakh rural households in water-scarce Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions of Uttar Pradesh ahead of Diwali, the families rejoiced by lighting about five crore lamps expressing happiness, and gratitude towards the Yogi Adityanath government in the state.
On receiving tap water supply under the ambitious ‘Har Ghar Jal’ campaign on Thursday, families of hundreds of villages across the state rejoiced by lighting lamps celebrating ‘Jal Deepawali’ at their houses as well as panchayat buildings, primary schools and community buildings. Various NGOs and administrative officers, public representatives, including the officials of Namami Gange and the Rural Water Supply Department, left no stone unturned to add to the happiness of the villagers and in making the moment memorable.
The happiness among villagers was also celebrated with the distribution of sweets. In many villages, voluntary organizations presented a pot filled with water to the panchayat representatives as a symbol of water in every household. On the occasion, the people also took a pledge not to waste water and contribute towards the vision of preserving groundwater.
State Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh participated in the Deepotsava event in Sitapur and inaugurated the ‘Har Ghar Jal Deepotsav’ across the state by lighting the first lamp. Public representatives including ministers, MPs, MLAs, block heads, district panchayat members, and village heads participated in the event organized in all the districts across the state.
