फेसबुक-पैरेंट मेटा प्लेटफॉर्म्स ने कहा है कि वह 10,000 नौकरियों में कटौती करेगा। मेटा पहली बिग टेक कंपनी है जो बड़े पैमाने पर छंटनी के दूसरे दौर की घोषणा कर रही है। मेटा ने पिछले साल ही 11000 से अधिक कर्मचारियों को कंपनी से निकाल दिया था। कंपनी ने एक ब्लॉग पोस्ट में इस छंटनी की जानकारी दी है।
मेटा के सीईओ मार्क जकरबर्ग ने कर्मचारियों को एक संदेश में कहा, “मुझे लगता है कि हमें खुद को इस संभावना के लिए तैयार करना चाहिए कि यह नई आर्थिक वास्तविकता कई सालों तक जारी रहेगी।”
इस खबर के आते ही मेटा के शेयर में 6% उछाल दर्ज किए गए। व्यापक रूप से प्रत्याशित नौकरी में कटौती एक पुनर्गठन का हिस्सा है जिसके अंतर्गत कंपनी के 5,000 भर्ती योजनाओं को रद्द करना, निम्न-प्राथमिकता वाली परियोजनाओं को रद्द करना और मध्य प्रबंधन की परतों को समतल करना इत्यादि शामिल है।
इस छंटनी से कंपनी को अपने खर्चों में कटौती होने की उम्मीद है। मेटा ने बताया था कि 2023 में कंपनी का कुल खर्च 86 अरब डॉलर से 92 अरब डॉलर के बीच हो सकता है। जबकि, पहले यही खर्च 89 अरब डॉलर से 95 अरब डॉलर के बीच होने का अनुमान था।
बढ़ती ब्याज दरों के कारण आर्थिक मंदी की चिंताओं ने पूरे कॉर्पोरेट अमेरिका में बड़े पैमाने पर नौकरी में कटौती की है: गोल्डमैन सैक्स और मॉर्गन स्टेनली जैसे वॉल स्ट्रीट बैंकों से लेकर Amazon.com और Microsoft सहित बड़ी टेक फर्मों तक।
मेटा, जो फ्यूचरिस्टिक मेटावर्स के निर्माण के लिए अरबों डॉलर डाल रहा है, आर्थिक दृष्टिकोण से चिंतित कंपनियों के विज्ञापन खर्च में महामारी के बाद की मंदी से जूझ रहा है।
जुकरबर्ग ने कहा कि मेटा प्रबंधन की कई परतों को हटा देगा और प्रबंधकों को व्यक्तिगत योगदानकर्ता बनने के लिए कहेगा। उन्होंने कहा, “हम कर्मचारियों की संख्या में इतनी तेजी से वृद्धि की उम्मीद नहीं करते हैं, यह प्रत्येक प्रबंधक की क्षमता का यथासंभव अधिक से अधिक उपयोग करने के लिए अधिक समझ में आता है।”
बता दें कि मेटा ने पिछले साल नवंबर में 11 हजार कर्मचारियों को निकाल दिया था। कंपनी के 18 साल के इतिहास में ये पहली इतनी बड़ी छंटनी थी। 2022 के आखिर तक मेटा में काम करने वाले कर्मचारियों की संख्या 86,482 है, जो एक साल पहले की तुलना में 20% अधिक है। लेऑफ़-ट्रैकिंग साइट लेऑफ्स.फाई के अनुसार, टेक उद्योग ने 2022 की शुरुआत से लगभग कर्मचारियों को बाहर निकाल दिया है, जिनमें से लगभग 40% कर्मचारी इस साल निकाले जाएंगे।
